The Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla) invites applications for a tenure track position in architectural engineering in the Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering Department. The appointment is anticipated to be at the assistant professor level. Of primary interest are candidates whose teaching and research expertise lies in the area of building systems. Interdisciplinary candidates with an interest in building mechanical systems (e.g. lighting-illumination, electrical-building power distribution, HVAC, etc.) are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded, nationally recognized research program involving MS and PhD level students as well as a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels. An earned baccalaureate degree in architectural engineering, civil engineering or a closely-related field from an ABET/EAC accredited or equivalent program and an earned PhD degree, preferably in architectural, civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering are required. At least one degree in architectural engineering is highly desirable. Superior communications skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to motivate and inspire undergraduate and graduate students are also required attributes. Practical experience will be considered an asset. The successful candidate will be expected to become a licensed engineer within six years of appointment. The Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering seeks to complement and/or strengthen its existing research thrusts in structural engineering by inviting applications for a tenure-track faculty position commencing Fall semester 2010. While the appointment is anticipated at the assistant professor level a higher rank may be considered based on the qualifications of the applicant. The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in structural engineering as an experimental and/or analytical investigator.

This Department is an integral supporter of the following research centers: the Missouri S&T University Transportation Center (one of the 10 existing national UTC centers), the Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies, the Wei-Wen Yu Center for Cold Formed Steel Structures, the Environmental Research Center for Emerging Contaminants, and the Natural Hazards Mitigation Institute. The successful candidate will have the potential for available matching research funds through one or more of these Centers.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally-funded research program, have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidate must have an earned undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent and an earned PhD in civil engineering or a closely related field. Superior communication and interpersonal skills, leadership capabilities, the ability to engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research, and the ability to motivate and inspire undergraduate and graduate students are also required attributes. Practical experience will be considered an asset. Licensure as a professional engineer is required or expected within 4 years of the appointment.
