About the Role
The Powerplex Managing Director will serve as the leader in developing and executing the Powerplex at Missouri S&T. They will advise on planning, coordination, communication, and oversight of all phases of the Powerplex project. They will also serve as a key interface between the university, engineering and design teams, research contacts, industry partners, contractors, regulatory bodies, etc., and will work closely with the Senior Project Manager in the Design and Construction department to ensure that the project is delivered safely, on schedule, and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the project’s nuclear technical expert for reactor design and construction.
- Serve as a key contact for the project and program, interfacing with external stakeholders
- Advise university leadership on regulatory requirements, licensing pathways, and compliance (NRC, DOE).
- Translate academic and research needs into reactor design criteria and technical requirements.
- Review design documents to ensure compliance with nuclear safety codes and University program needs.
- Support project management activities across planning, execution, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- Identify nuclear‑specific technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Maintain required documentation, quality assurance records, and regulatory filings.
- Foster a strong nuclear safety culture and support training/qualification of project personnel.
